NCAA Football Picks Oct 31

Plenty of fun games, and potential upsets on Halloween Saturday :)

SEASON TOTAL: 70-48

No. 25 Mississippi at Auburn
Southern Miss at No. 18 Houston
Georgia vs. No. 1 Florida
No. 24 California at Arizona State
No. 12 Penn State at Northwestern
Kansas State at Oklahoma
No. 22 South Carolina at Tennessee
No. 3 Texas at No. 14 Oklahoma State
No. 5 USC at No. 10 Oregon
Wyoming at No. 16 Utah

If you look at the ranked vs unranked games on the list, there is some potential for upsets today, though the more likely threats are to Texas and USC. I'm not too convinced that Oklahoma State can beat Texas, but Oregon could easily beat USC. That being said, I'm not picking either of those upsets.

The only upsets I am picking are Auburn and Southern Miss.

SEASON TOTAL: 70-47

North Carolina at No. 13 Virginia Tech

Mark Sanchez Hot Dog Video: Jets QB Eats Hot Dog During Game

I have no problem with this. I think it's hilarious! You know what would've been even funnier? If he was eating the hot-dog while he was on the field :) And they still would've won!

They beat the happy images of sunshine and kittens out of the Raiders and their star QB is sitting on the sidelines eating a hot-dog... so what?

The dude should be doing commercials for Ballpark Franks. They gotta capitalize on this. "So good, it's like beating the eternal fucking hell out of the Raiders!"

NFL Picks Oct 25

SEASON TOTAL: 68-43

Minnesota at Pittsburgh
San Francisco at Houston
Atlanta at Dallas
Chicago at Cincinnati
Arizona at NY Giants

--I was 7-3 yesterday in college picks.

--Of the four remaining undefeated teams, Minnesota has the highest risk of losing today.
  • The Colts are playing a ferocious Rams team that hasn't won a single game all fucking year.
  • The Saints are playing Miami in Miami, but I don't expect that to make a difference.
  • And the Broncos have a bye week.
In spite of that, I expect all four to remain undefeated after today. I think Denver will be the first to fall next week when they play Baltimore.

--My guess is the Bears/Bengals and the Falcons/Cowboys games should be the closest matches this week.

Frankenstein

Frankenstein.

It looks more like the son of Frankenstein. This is what's happened as I've let my style develop. If you go back and look at Star Stream and look at the character style and then look at this you can see some progress (granted this is just a sketch, nowhere near "finished")

I thought about continuing this evolution in the next chapter of Star Stream but I'm trying to avoid the almost caricature look and feel it has. I want to stay closer to these three pieces:

Mervyn Pumpkinhead
Some dude with a sword
Swordsman

Especially the last two.

NCAA Football Picks Oct 24

This might be the most games I've picked on a single day all season.

SEASON TOTAL: 61-40

South Florida at No. 20 Pittsburgh
Tennessee at No. 2 Alabama
No. 13 Penn State at Michigan
Oklahoma at No. 25 Kansas
Boston College at Notre Dame
Texas A&M at Texas Tech
No. 8 TCU at No. 16 Brigham Young
Auburn at No. 9 LSU
No. 3 Texas at Missouri
Oregon State at No. 7 USC

--I'm taking South Florida in the upset.

--Oklahoma should jump back into the Top 25 after beating Kansas.

--The only Top 25 match-up this week is between two schools I could care less about.

--For the most part, this should be a pretty routine week for most of the Top 25 schools. I've picked the only two games I think we have any real chance of seeing an upset, and one of those (the Oklahoma game) is an upset in name only. If you count BYU against TCU that's three.

I'm 60-40 on the year. I can and should be doing a lot better than this.

I think FSU is more capable of stepping up against UNC than vise-versa.

Rivera Spitball Video: Did Yankees' Mariano Rivera Cheat?

Am I the only person in America that remembers just THREE DAYS AGO when Erick Aybar and Mike Scioscia argued a call where Aybar CLEARLY failed to tag second on a double play with "They'd been letting him do it all night, so why call it now?"

Does anyone remember how that game ended? With Aybar unable to catch a wild throw because he had to keep his foot on the bag? Or what about the fact that the Angels had 5 double plays up to that point in the game and haven't had two since?

So we're really gonna waste time arguing about something Rivera "may or may not" have done?

NFL Picks Oct 18

I need a big day today to get my season total back up a little bit. Unfortunately, a lot of good teams have a bye week this week.

Baltimore at Minnesota
NY Giants at New Orleans
Arizona at Seattle
Chicago at Atlanta

--This game will be decided by how the Vikings offense does against the Ravens defense.

--The Giants/Saints game is by far the biggest game of the week, maybe one of the biggest games of the year.

--Arizona and Seattle are two of the best candidates among losing teams to turn their season around. My money is on Arizona doing it first.

--I'm picking Atlanta simply because they have a much better QB.

NCAA Football Picks Oct 17

I've been looking forward to this Saturday all week. There are a ton of really great match-ups and a lot of "toss-ups" (meaning I have no idea what's gonna happen)

No. 20 Oklahoma vs. No. 3 Texas
No. 7 Ohio State at Purdue
No. 6 USC at No. 25 Notre Dame
Texas Tech at No. 15 Nebraska
No. 4 Virginia Tech at No. 19 Georgia Tech
No. 22 South Carolina at No. 2 Alabama
Missouri at No. 16 Oklahoma State

--Right off the bat the day starts with a top 25 match-up. Oklahoma has had a rough year and it's only gonna get worse after this rivalry loss. (*)

--I'd love to see Purdue pull off the upset in this one. I just don't see it happening.

--USC/Notre Dame is even closer than those ranks indicate with USC starting a freshman QB against Notre Dame's Heisman hopeful Clausen. (For the record, I don't think he'll get it - I think Colt McCoy pretty much has it wrapped up right now, thanks to Tebow and Bradford both suffering injuries earlier in the year)

--Texas Tech can't seem to get it done against top 25 teams.

--Va Tech continue to roll through one of the toughest (if not the toughest) schedules in the nation. (*)

--I'm about this close to picking South Carolina in the upset... I just can't go all the way... (*)

--If I remember correctly, I've said in previous PICK posts that I don't believe the Oklahoma State hype... and I still don't.

(*) If there's any chance of Va Tech jumping into the #2 spot (and a shot at the national title) it's this week. The two teams between them and a match-up with the Gators are both playing top 25 teams that shouldn't be underestimated.

NFL Picks Oct 11

I'm still waiting on a few games from yesterday's college picks (today as I'm writing this) but I should have to season totals up-to-date later. So far, it looks like I've broken out of my slump in the college picks! As for my NFL picks, this week I'm going for a 3rd straight undefeated week!

Dallas at Kansas City
Washington at Carolina
Cincinnati at Baltimore
Atlanta at San Francisco
New England at Denver

--The Panthers are still looking for their first win. Beating the Redskins isn't much of an upset, but it's an upset nonetheless.

--I could be wrong, but I feel like I'm taking a huge chance picking Cincinnati.

--Atlanta and San Francisco are two of the more underrated teams in the NFL. I kept going back and forth on this one.

--Denver isn't going undefeated, and if they have to lose at some point, it's a safe bet to go with the Patriots being the team to do it.

NCAA Football Picks Oct 10

I'm picking a lot of games this week.

Boston College at No. 5 Virginia Tech
Georgia at Tennessee
No. 15 Oklahoma State at Texas A&M
No. 3 Alabama at No. 20 Mississippi
Wisconsin at No. 9 Ohio State
No. 13 Oregon at UCLA
No. 1 Florida at No. 4 LSU
No. 22 Georgia Tech at Florida State
Michigan at No. 12 Iowa

--BC has caused a lot of grief for Va Tech in the past but since they're playing the game at Lane Stadium, even if Tech plays bad they should still win. (Its nice to see Tech ranked #5!)

--Georgia has had a rough year so far... but so has Tennessee.

--I don't think Mississippi at #20 are ready for a #3 Alabama team.

--Ohio State will give Wisconsin their first loss.

--Even if Tebow plays, Florida is still gonna lose. And it's about fucking time!

FSU has been terrible this year... but with all the talk about Bowden possibly not being wrought back next year, he's not gonna lose this one.

--Iowa has snuck into an undeserving #12 rank. Michigan, on the other hand, is a lot better than their record shows.

Black Holes: Universe To End Sooner Than Thought

Haha, I've been saying it for months but nobody would listen.

You might think it's a little fucked up when I say that reading an article about how the Universe will be destroyed by super-black hole... but I don't care!

**WARNING!** The following contains some major spoilers for STAR STREAM.

One of the major plot points of my webcomic Star Stream is that the most dominant race in the universe is reversing the flow of the universe (instead of constantly expanding it's increasingly collapsing in on itself) and part of that process involved artificial "super black holes"

So when I read an article talking about super black holes most likely causing the "death" of the universe I got a little excited. I felt like Moses or Nostradamus... my complete (100%) guesswork hit pretty fucking close to the truth. It was like a moment of triumph!!

And then I realized the whole fucking universe is ABOUT TO DIE!

NFL Picks Oct 4

After going 2-6 yesterday in my college picks, I could really use another undefeated week of NFL picks... just like last week!

Baltimore at New England
NY Jets at New Orleans
Dallas at Denver
San Diego at Pittsburgh

That's not a lot of picks, I know. But since the goddamn NFL thought it would be awesome to have four teams off each week instead of two, there are fewer games to choose from.

One other thing I noticed while I was going over all of the week's match-ups was that there are a lot of teams at 1-2 or 0-3. I'm still a little confused about how that's even possible. It should work out that for ever game a team loses, another team gets a win... at least that's how it was back in the day. But somehow everybody has a fucking losing record! Fuck if I know...

--I'm still not convinced of the "Baltimore is back" hype.

--I am convinced of the New Orleans hype. I'm a little surprised by how good they've been this year, but considering the talent they have on offense I really shouldn't be.

--I'm not ready to put Denver on the list of AFC contenders yet, but they'll more than likely stay undefeated... for another week anyway.

--The Steelers aren't as bad as their record. A win this week is too important for them. They won't lose.

NCAA Football Picks Oct 3

It's October, it's getting colder outside and my cable provider finally got on board with the ESPN360.com thing so I don't have to watch the piece of shit games they show on ESPN and ESPN 2 every week! Now here are some picks:

No. 22 Michigan at Michigan State
Clemson at Maryland
No. 4 LSU at No. 18 Georgia
Florida State at Boston College
North Carolina State at Wake Forest
Auburn at Tennessee
No. 7 USC at No. 24 California
No. 8 Oklahoma at No. 17 Miami (FL)

Before I run down the list, take a look at the number of top 25 match-ups... we're finally starting to see more of them each week. This is when College Football really starts to get good.

--Clemson continues to be a thorn in my fucking side. If they lose this week, I lose all faith in them as a team.

--Georgia has been a little wishy-washy (I have to confess that I don't know what the fuck that means)

--FSU really can't afford to lose another game this year. That said, I'd be ok with them losing the rest of their games if they'd just beat Florida :)

--NC State is a little bit better than I thought they would be.

--I'm picking Tennessee because I think they need a win more than Auburn.

--USC won't lose two in a row any time soon.

--I'm tempted to go with Miami just because Oklahoma still won't have Bradford back. I just don't think they're up to the challenge.

I just noticed I picked the visiting team in all but one game... that's probably not a good idea... fuck it, I'm sticking to my picks.
